MODERNIST

Building Inventory

NM Modernism maintains a statewide inventory of architecturally significant mid-century modernist buildings (a period dating roughly 1945-1975). Through research, photography, and historical record-keeping, the inventory details these structures before they are lost or substantially altered. Such a living document helps property owners, planners, communities, and policymakers make informed preservation decisions. The inventory is also useful to a variety of other stakeholders, including historians, researchers, and design enthusiasts.

ORIGINS OF THE INVENTORY

The foundation of the inventory comes from the seminal work of Dr. William Dodge who authored the 2013 Survey of Albuquerque's Mid-century Modernist Architectural Resources for the City of Albuquerque. Over the years, the inventory was updated and expanded by Modern Albuquerque, under Dr. Dodge's oversight. Now, it resides with NM Modernism. We continue adding buildings, residences, and art based on ongoing research and tips from our fellow modernist enthusiasts.
